the rebellion will be free

For four days, starting tomorrow (1/10/19), the kindle version of Where Shadows Fall will be free, so if you need to get your hands on this series conclusion, this may be your time!

Recently, Where Shadows Fall received a five star review from Reader’s Favorite reviewer, Liz Konkel.  She had this to say in her review:  “Case crafts an epic and satisfying installment that carries on the darker tone of the series with a lighter feeling and an end that finds hope for a better future. Where Shadows Fall has plenty of darker moments which include war, death, and torture with an honest portrayal of trauma and grief blended into a blunt commentary on social issues and the state of society through the guise of supernatural beings.”

If you pick up a copy while it’s free, I’d love it if you could drop a rating and/or review on Amazon or Goodreads after you’ve read it.

And while we’re at it, I’m running a giveaway of the entire series on Kindle:

a complete set

Looking for a gift for someone who loves to read?  The entire Shades and Shadows trilogy is available as a complete set for your loved one’s Kindle (or your own).  For the first time, you can own the complete story from the beginning before violence and xenophobia tear a country apart, through a sort of war that finds our heroes scattered and hurting, to the conclusion.

Come meet our heroes, Shades Mason and Raven, Shadows Alaric and Bryan, Shifters Sahara, Maddie and Evan, and young Zero who is both Sage and Shadow, and so much more, as they try to navigate a world, and a war, fighting for the survival of their tribes.

I am also holding a sale on paperbacks.  I currently have 10 copies of Forever and 11 copies of Through Shade and Shadow (with the original cover) available.  From now through December 24 they are $7 each, or both for $12 plus shipping cost.  Just reach out to me via email at natalie@nataliejcase.com and we’ll sort the details.

I hope to have a giveaway set up soon (amazon is giving me headaches over it). If you have already read any of these, I would appreciate it if you would leave a review on Amazon.  Every review helps us get the books in front of more readers.

It’s writing day, so I am off into a land of fantasy.  Happy Sunday, Readers!

a bridge of shadow

Recently we finished up our second Creativia anthology.  Like the first one, all of the writers started with the same prompt, and had about four months to write.  This time around, their prompt was “The letter/email/missive/message was ominous, if a little vague in the details. “Midnight, on the bridge. Come alone.””

The finished product is an unusual mix of genres and subjects.  Each writer really set off on their own path from the prompt.  As usual, they are give a fair bit of leeway in interpreting the prompt as long as they kept the heart of it the same.

As a result, you’ll find colonial America, Victorian London and fantasy worlds alike.  There are love stories, cautionary tales, and fantasy.  You will find paranormal creatures like wendigos, vampires, Shades, sentient shadows or talking animals.

The six authors represented here took our prompt and each of them headed off in a different direction, and that right there is half the reason I do it!  I love the way creative minds work, and it is a thrill getting to edit (and contribute) to this collection.

Now available on Amazon in kindle and paperback formats, get your copy of A Bridge of Shadow today!

early morning coffee

Lately, the pain from this pinched nerve gets me up and out of bed around 3am every morning.  Today it’s the tightness in my shoulder muscles and my forearm muscles.  Some mornings it’s the searing, stabbing pain in my neck and shoulder joint.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s much better than it was a week ago.

I’ll wake up, possibly needing to go to the bathroom around 1 or 2 am.  I’ll shift around, take the middle of the night pain pills, then toss and turn and doze a bit until I give up because I just can’t get comfortable.  That’s almost always right around 3am.

I get up, get the cats their morning treats and start a pot of coffee.  Then I sit and play silly Facebook games with my left hand working the mouse while I let gravity help loosen up my right arm.  Usually by the end of the first pot of coffee, I’m mostly functional, though typing isn’t usually on the agenda this early.

Because I’m on limited duty for work, and am largely working from home, this means I have a little time to kill before I start my work day.  Yesterday that meant working on my short story for the second anthology, and that’s probably what I’ll do today too.  Either that or I work on the third book in the Shades and Shadows series.

Speaking of which, have you gone to get your copy of In Gathering Shade yet?  The kindle version is available now.  Paperbacks coming soon!

You can also get Through Shade and Shadow and In Gathering Shade together as a bundle on Kindle.

Once you’ve read them, I’d really appreciate a review.  It only takes a minute.  You don’t have to say much.  I really hate how much we rely on them to get our books into recommendations, but we do.

I’m putting together a giveaway package that I’ll probably award in December.  It will include autographed copies of both books in the series, as well as some fun things you’re going to love, so stay tuned!

On that note, my coffee cup needs refilling and my arm needs a rest.  Happy Tuesday, Readers!

in search of…

Are you a book reviewer?  A reader who loves books?  I’m looking for folks who will provide honest reviews of my books.  I can provide electronic ARCs if you are a book blogger or reviewer.

I know my work isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but if you’re interested in vampire stories that go beyond the modern teenage love story, you might enjoy Forever, the story of Amara: born to a vampire mother and raised in a clan of killers, Amara finds herself at odds with her family and drawn toward the world of man.

Once-Upon-A-Broken-Dream-Main-File

Once Upon a Broken Dream is an anthology of short stories that all emerged from a single prompt.  Two of my own stories are in there and I edited the overall anthology.  The stories cover a broad spectrum of genres.  My two offerings are an introduction to a sci-fi story I hope to introduce next year, Jericho Jordan and a fairy-tale fantasy called Red-Belly about a world once governed by dragons.

Through Shade and Shadow

Through Shade and Shadow is the opening salvo in a series filled with danger, secret government agencies, psychics, healers and shape-shifters and a world on the brink of war. Meet Mason Jerah, a Shade, who we meet as his world dies, goes from a backwoods, sheltered boy to government agent at the focal point of the coming civil war and Alaric Lambrecht, a Shadow who just wants to keep his people safe.  When they finally come together, it could signal the beginning of the end.

In-Gathering-Shade-Main-FileIn Gathering Shade picks up where Through Shade and Shadow left off, joining Mason and Alaric on a daring escape and meeting a few new players.  Raven Ivany is a government agent, working for the same agency as Mason.  She too is a Shade, and while investigating what seems to be a Shade serial killer, she happens across Zero, a teenager with the abilities of a Sage and a Shadow, together with Evan Chayton, they find themselves caught up in the machinations of a Shadow who has been manipulating things from behind the scenes.

Anyone interested in reviewing any of these, please reach out to me at natalie@nataliejcase.com.

hit the streets

I’ve been thinking a lot lately on book promotion and how to get new readers.  Some of my fellow authors have small “street teams” or early review teams who help get the word out, get reviews up early, and talk about their books on various social media platforms.

Are you interested in joining my team?  I’m still getting the details together, but there would be benefits.  First of course, you would get an electronic copy of a new book before it’s release so that you can review it as soon as it’s available online.

I’m still considering perks.  Maybe something like, leave a review on 5 different sites (amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, goodreads, barnesandnoble.com and your blog maybe), and I’ll send you a signed hard copy?

And, yes, I am still trying to build up reviews on both Forever and Through Shade and Shadow. If you have read either, please consider taking a few minutes to leave a review on any amazon site and/or any other site you see reviews on.

If you want to be a part of my team and be among the first to receive an electronic copy of In Shades of Sage when it’s ready, comment below or email me at natalie@nataliejcase.com.

#readers favorite review

I was very fortunate to receive a FIVE STAR review from Reader’s Favorite this week!

Through Shade and Shadow was reviewed by Liz Konkel for Readers’ Favorite.

“A cautionary tale with a supernatural essence, Through Shade and Shadow tells the story of two people who are trying to make a difference, to do good and save people from hatred. So much truth is in this novel. There may be Shades, Shadows, and Shifters, but it’s so realistic that it’s eerie. All it took was a Shade being caught murdering people, and then everyone is afraid of Shades, not taking the time to see that at their core they’re healers.”

Also, a little birdie told me a secret!  The Kindle version of Through Shade and Shadow will be FREE for four days, starting Saturday, February 18th.

I hope you’re all enjoying the book.  If you’ve read it, I hope you wouldn’t mind leaving a review on the Amazon store (US, UK, CA, AU, whichever) and/or Goodreads or other review friendly place.  If you’re a blogger and you post a review, I’d love to hear from you.  Or if you’re interested in an interview or other blogging fun with me, drop a line.

You can email me at natalie@nataliejcase.com.

Have a wonderful Thursday, everyone!

everyone loves book recs & free stuff!

Just a reminder that my giveaway is open for you to jump into over on Goodreads.com.  I have two copies of Forever up for grabs.  Sign ups close on Halloween at midnight.

So far, more than 400 people have raised their hand to be included.

You can join the fun here on Goodreads.

While I have your attention, let me point you to some awesome work by other awesome women that I know:

Fellow Creativia author and friend, Susan-Alia Terry’s debut book is called Coming Darkness and it is so very well crafted.  Imagine if you will that Lucifer was never sent to hell, just banished from heaven.  And imagine him with a vampire for a lover.  Add in some political intrigue, some culture clash among the Otherkin and a grand mystery in the form of beings more powerful than God himself.  Her characters are brilliant and their story is vibrant and alive.

Another friend with a debut novel this year is K.B. Wagers, whose debut novel, Behind the Throne, is the sci-fi with a kickass female lead you didn’t even know you were waiting for.  The story begins with a gunrunner with a secret past finding her past catching up to her and whether she wants to or not, she’s going to have to face up to everything she left behind. What follows is a roller coaster space epic that leaves you white knuckled and breathless.  Get it now, because the sequel, After the Crown drops on December 13th.

One last one for today.  If you dig sassy female protagonists, check out my friend, and one time critique partner, Carlye Knight’s first book, Confessions of a Failed Preacher’s Daughter.  The story takes the form of the main character’s blog and it revels in all the emotions of being a teenager, amplified through the megaphone of being a PK (preacher’s kid).

There you have it.  Go sign up!  Go read!

a giveaway and a 5-star Review

Today is the day that my giveaway opens for entry over on Goodreads. It runs now through October 31st and the winners get a signed copy mailed to them direct from me!

In other news, I’ve been anticipating my first professional review on pins and needles, and I got word this morning that it was ready.  The website Reader’s Favorite has a reputation for honest and fair reviews, and they have a waiting list three miles long.

Reviewer Kathryn Bennett gave Forever a wonderful 5 Star review, which you can view on their site.

They also run a book contest every year, which I have entered.  Excitement abounds!
